Thankful Thursday ~ Discovery

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

AbriGEDC0096One of the things I best love about life and watching my grands live life is to watch them discover. We love to discover; a new place to shop, an out of the way place to eat out with great food and better prices; an easier way to do things, new technology, new flavors, new skills, better and healthier foods and supplements, beautiful sights and the list goes on and on...
Abriele has discovered the flavors of many foods, the cat's soft fur (before she takes off running) toys that talk, how to suck from a straw, dogs that bark, who is tender, who is fun, that she can walk and how to say Mama and Dada among many other things. She knows how to wrap us around her little finger and how to place the pacifier and/or bottle in her mouth. She is just 10 months old and has covered so much territory, If you find life boring, watch it from the eyes of a child and you will light up with childish delight. :-) They know how to embrace each day like a magical adventure.
1. What is your favorite discovery?
2. What was the last time you experienced a new discovery?
Life is so abundant, don't let the little ones have all the fun! This post linked to two questions Thursday. Go make a few discoveries at Amanda's blog. She always has fun and interesting posts. Thank you for visiting me, take care, stay healthy and God bless!!

The Promise of Spring

Spring blossoms

The minister speaks
My mind intently listens
Till my eyes spy blossoms
~

Spring blossoms

Tis heaven when spring greets
Our eyes and olfactor senses
With fragrant blossoms
~
We leave monochrome days
Entering a wondrous haze
Blossoms on display
~

The eyes get weary, even the body after months of cold frigid temperatures and  short days. We begin the day in the dark and come home from work in the dark; no wonder so many suffer from SAD. Some reason I remember last spring as I listened to our minister speak, and I do listen, honestly, but as I looked out the window I spotted these two gorgeous trees with hundreds of blossoms. After church I ran around to the other side to snap some pictures and just came across two of those saved photos in my archives. It is still too cold here for blooms, but soon spring promises to revive our tired senses!

Thank you, Kristjaan Panneman, for offering this haiku challenge where we can take your inspiring thoughts and words and turn them into our version of spring haiku. Visit carpe diem and challenge yourself.

Thank you for your visit. Take care, stay healthy and God bless!

Remembrence's new t-shirt

Ms. Inquisitive, Abriele

New tees for L'mirrah and Remembrence

Where's my menu?

Abriele had a potato wedge in her hand in the first photo,  but even with food to occupy her she always has time to scope out the restaurant to see what other people are up to. The second and third photo were of L'Mirrah and Remembrence in their new t-shirts we found on sale at Big Lots for $1.50 each and the last was of Abriele after the waitress left with our orders. She kept watching the waitress as if to ask where's my menu? I want to order too!!

Hope you have a colorful weekend too! This post linked to color connection. Thank you for your visit. Take care, stay healthy and God bless!

Costume parties were usually fun, but this time their niece went too far! And would the stench of these costumes ever launder out?

Keep your eye on the grand old flag

American Flag

American Flag

Storm clouds

I have a large American flag which was given to me by my real estate agent after selling me my home. She thought it was an appropriate gift as I am a veteran, but I never hung it up; not because I do not want to display the flag. I love the American flag and all it stands for, but because I was taught that the flag was brought in on incliment days. We were not to allow it to rain or snow on our flag, and here it was waving in the high winds as the storm approached. It rained and snowed and our dear flag stood bravely.

Remember this song written by George M. Cohan?

You're a Grand Old Flag

You're a grand old flag,
You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of
The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave.
Ev'ry heart beats true
'neath the Red, White and Blue,
Where there's never a boast or brag.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

You're a grand old flag,
You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of
The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave.
Ev'ry heart beats true
'neath the Red, White and Blue,
Where there's never a boast or brag.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

Thankful Thursday - Good Customer Service!

Computer issues

About 6 months ago I was going crazy with pop ups from my anti-virus program sending pop up messages continually every 5 minutes to advise me that I needed to update my program before it expired or my computer would be left unprotected!! It certainly got my attention but I knew I had time. I had bought the anti-virus program when I bought the laptop and updated it once since and it had not been two years YET!!

Hurry up and get a program.

I have a back up pc which had a different anti-virus program on it so I called that company the next day on my lunch break to ask if the program could be shared. Sadly it cannot, so out of desperation I purchased it with my card right then and there and went home and installed it on my laptop only. This girl does not make that kind of money to pay like $60. twice!

Help! My Computer has an unfriendly guest!

The first time I ran it it informed me that there were several trojans and instances of malware active on my computer so I followed the instructions and removed them. But a few days later when I went to run the program again my new program was butting heads with the old one; the one I had been informed had expired by then. I went to add/remove programs and it would not go.

They charge $99. to evict.

I called Best Buy after work one night (where I bought the laptop and the anti-virus program) and asked for a telephone number to reach their customer service. They told me to bring it in and there would be a $99. charge. There was NO customer service!! I was very annoyed and told them so. The program states it has expired, pops up every 5 minutes to interfere with whatever I am doing and then will not leave my computer and Best Buy wants to extort $99. to evict it? Let's not forget it is blocking my new program from working and left several bad guys alive and well on my laptop!!

The program I use now has excellent customer service, the old one has no number offered. The office is located in Russia. I asked them how they would like me to write about my dissatisfaction with this program and lack of customer service, and it magically left my computer the next morning and has not been back.

Recently another computer issue....

My friend bought a top of the line computer with a large touch screen. It's beautiful. She called me the other day as it just died. Guess where she bought it? You guessed it. It has a two year warranty so she took it back and they will repair it but advised her they would have to wipe out all of her programs. To restore the programs she would have to pay extra. She told them never mind  and to just replace the hard drive and give it back. She is trusting me to restore everything. Silly girl. I'm no computer whiz, but will do my best to make her happy.

I'm a wannabe!

This post linked to Two QuestionsThursday. Amanda is one of those computer whizzes I wish to be more like. So is her sister, Icy. I am just a wannabe. lol

1.) If you had a computer whiz handy, what would you ask them to teach you? Mine are too numerous to mention. :-)

2.) What program would you not be able to live without on your computer, besides anti-virus? I won't ask anyone what anti-virus program they use because I do not want to put anyone at risk. I understand that there are those who train their eyes on our vulnerable spot so we should broadcast which programs we use to protect our computer.

Shadows on the Menu?

Saturday, March 9, 2013

This post linked to Shadow Shot Sunday. Grab a shadow and join in the fun. For my quote today I am including the lyrics to the song:

The Shadow of Your Smile

One day we walked along the sand, one day in early spring
You held a piper in your hand to mend its broken wing
Now I'll remember many a day and many a lonely mile
The echo of a piper's song, the shadow of her smile

The shadow of your smile, when you are gone
Will color all my dreams and light the dawn
Look into my eyes my love and see
All the lovely things you are to me

Our wistful little star was far too high
A teardrop kissed your lips and so did I
Now when I remember spring, all the joy that love can bring
I will be remembering the shadow of your smile.

Thankful Thursday ~ Life

Wednesday, March 6, 2013

Today I took a call from a customer who like many others called because her account was in serious arrears. She was afraid of having her service disconnected but during our conversation she mentioned she was just getting back from Disney World and having the time of her life. She and her teenage daughter went. But before you wonder how she could let her bill slide and go to Disney World know this; her daughter is in hospice and the Make a Wish Foundation had sponsored the trip as her daughter has a very short time to live. She left a very lucrative job to care for her dying daughter. She has spent countless hours at her bedside or taking her to tests, procedures and treatments, knowing that all these efforts would only extend her life by a precious few days, or perhaps only minutes or hours.

Her daughter, her only child would not bear children, much less graduate from high school and attend her prom. This would probably be one of the most precious memories of her life, a bittersweet memory to carry her through the rest of her childless life. As she entered her golden years she would not have babies to bounce upon her knee. She spoke with her voice breaking fighting to keep from crying.

As we set up a payment arrangement on her account to secure her service, I was forced to think about delinquent bills, credit reports and every day things and how they paled in comparison with the fullness of life. Our family is blessed with so many little lives. Joyous laughter and giggling, squabbles and making up are part of our daily routine and the knowledge that we can go to bed and do it all over again tomorrow. How good is that? Every day the many sad stories touch me and leave me humbled by the goodness which I am blessed with.

This post linked to Two Questions Thursday

The photo above is borrowed from my friend Anne who is expecting her first grand (pictured). Congrats, Anne. Life is so much better with the little ones who make our days so much more. Now we can sit down and brag together!!

This question is for only parents or grandparents:

1. Do you think your child/grandchild is the most precious one that ever lived? Of course they are! :-)

2. Do you get tired of hearing the bragging comments made by other parents/grandparents? No, I just want equal time. :-)

I will apologize ahead of time for raving about mine. They make my day. Thank you for your visit. Take care, stay healthy and God bless!!

Hopefully this would pass like the many other bouts of idiopathic nausea that had hit him since his wife became pregnant. ~   101 words without spaces/122 with

Grandma's Goulash offers a challenge called succinctly yours. Here you use her photo as your inspiration and write a super short story of 140 characters/words or less. For more of a challenge you can also use her suggested bonus word. This week the word is idiopathic. Defined by Bing Encarta idiopathic is defined  - "describes a disease or disorder that has no known cause" Sometimes the word is thought to be without cause therefore sometimes refers to a birth defect.
