A Friend gets the Boot over Boots

Sunday, February 24, 2013

You dirty little…xerophyte! Why are you so angry? You knew I had my eye on these boots! It’s not like you were going to buy them anyway! 110 without spaces /137 with

Grandma's Goulash provides the picture and the micro-fiction challenge called succinctly yours. She even provides a bonus word if you want to make it just a little more challenging. We are to write a short shortystory containing 140 characters or words or less.  How low can you go? Which girl do you think will get the last word? (The empty one or the one who is "full" of it?)

The bonus word is xerophyte. BTW I asked ask.com for a definition because even spell checker got lost on that one. lol
"An eremophyte is a plant that grows in desert conditions. The term is derived from a Greek word, eremos, meaning 'solitary' or 'empty'. It is also known as a xerophyte or a psammophyte."

Thank you for your visit. I hope you had a fantastic week end. Take care. Stay healthy and God bless!

Fetch a Few Fascinating Herbs for Fantastic Health

False Unicorn

The roots are used to balance sex hormones, aid in fertility, regulate the menstrual cycle, relieve menstrual cramps, aid in prostate disorders and help to prevent miscarriage.

We use the berries, roots and stems as an appetite suppressant and eyewash. Fennel is also useful to aid in kidney , liver, and spleen function. It clears the lungs, relieves stomach pain, colon disorders, gas and aids in digestion. Assists in improving the comfort level of the patient during and after chemo treatments. The plant can be dried and turned into a powder which repels fleas.

This richly nutritious seed acts as a laxative, aids in eye health, reduces fever, reduces mucus, aids in natural asthma treatment, reduces lung inflammation and lung disorders. Fenugreek can be used as a oil and contains a maple-like flavor, or drunk as a tea.

We use the bark, flowers and the leaves of this herbal to aid in lung health, appetite, uterine contractions, arthritis, colitis, headaches, muscle pains, fever, tension and other pain. Should not be taken during pregnancy as it can induce labor. It is also known as featherfew and featherfoil.

I take flax seeds as I am very impressed with the fabulous nutrients they contain. Flax plants are used to make flax fabric and the seeds and oil is fantastically rich with nutrients. The tiny little seeds are power packed and will promote healthy bones, nails, teeth, skin and aid in better female health. They reduce inflammation, cholesterol and aid in colon health.

I hope you make yourself familiar with these few "F" herbals and enjoy a better health. This post is linked to ABC Wednesday. Thank you for your visit. Take care. Stay healthy and God bless! Train depot

Train depot

Train depot

These pictures were taken last fall on my smart phone. I found the texture of the photos interesting  once uploaded. They look like paintings not photographs.

It was one of those rare beautifully sunny days when I was out and about with no one along and no particular mission in mind so I could pause guilt free to take pictures, but as luck had it my camera was fresh out of batteries. This train depot has been here for many many years and I stopped to imagine some of the wonderful connections made here...soldiers back home, children returning from college...families visiting other family members...

Happy Valentines Day!

Hope you are beary happy!

I hope your Valentine's day is very sweet, not necessarily romantic, but happy!!  Mariolina helped her toddlers in her class make valentine's cards for their parents. I have given my children and grands cards and gifts before for Valentine's day. We exchange goodies at work... Who says love has to be limited to those we are intimate with?

1. Does Valentine's day have to be about romance?

2. What is your favorite gift for Valentine's day? Whatever it is, I hope you get it! :-)

Mirror do you see
What this witch has done to me
Is this not vanity?
~
Passing store windows
She stopped and stared at herself
And got caught unaware.
~
Mirrors were never
True to her; they showed her flaws
When she had none!

Kristjaan Panneman hosts a meme with a haiku a day. His prompt for today is "vanity". I hope you all have fun with your creativity genius. See you there! :-)

Glorious Stories

Blue Morning Glories

Blue morning glories
Spilled their glorious stories
Then went back to sleep

~

Rising with the sun
Vibrant faces full of glory
Close up tight at night
~

Shhh quietly they speak
Secrets that day will not keep
But night keeps so well

Cold Beauty

Sky collage

Peek-a-boo Sunshine

Behind clouds of gray
On a cold and dreary day
I wait with baited breath
While warmth meets it's death
Forcing me to see
Beauty in frigidity
The air is freezing cold
The clouds are big and bold
The sun tries it's best to smile
My mood it does beguile
Peeking out playfully
Just a second or two for me

Thankful Thursday - Transportation

Winter

Last winter was rather mild compared to this one. We hire someone to shovel our walk and drive and they have already been to our home more this winter then they were the entire winter last year. In fact March of 2012 we had a record breaking heat wave, which I did not mind one bit. We had temps in the 80s.
This (winter) year not only has it been colder but my car has been down twice. First it was a cam shaft sensor and then the struts so I have been without my car for three weeks. I am already cutting back on my errands because of the weather, but then without a car...I have to wait at the job site looking out the window at the above scenery waiting for hubby. Poor hubby is picking up both Mari and I and giving us rides home. My baby boy works second shift and though they could use a second car, it just is not in the budget yet. Mari left her car in NYC as it would have cost more to get it fixed and bring it. I know she misses her car as I almost hugged mine when I got it back! :-)
1. What kind of transportation do you have access to? We have very limited bus service. It doesn't even cover where her job is, and the hours are limited, then the bus runs every hour, so if you miss it you must wait for the next one, and only till 6 pm. I get out after 6 many evenings.
2. Do you car pool or share a ride to conserve gas/energy?
Thank you for your visit. I sincerely hope you visit Amanda at two questions Thursday and join in the conversation there. It's already buzzing. Take care, stay healthy and God bless!!
