The Dimwit Outwits the Twit

Sunday, December 29, 2013

He was easy to outwit
Come to think of it
He called me "nitwit"
But he was the twit!

One little sign
Pointed the wrong way
And he’d be lost
For the better part of the day!
(So easy to outwit)!

Grandma so graciously furnishes us with a writing challenge each week. She provides the photo and we supply our imagination. The challenge is to write a short story of 140 words/characters or less using her photo and the weekly bonus word. This weeks bonus word is "Outwit". How low can you go? The challenge is on at succinctly yours

Beauty for our Sake!

Sunday, December 22, 2013

The church was noted for their elaborate services. 43/51

In my blog you will find noted
Yes, you’ll find quoted
Mama’s favorite color is sky blue pink
Such a pretty color;
Don’t you think?  107/127

Clouds of pink
So magnificent
Against cobalt blue
As the sun is spent
Barely keeping dark at bay
Ushering out another day

Wisps of pink
A color of note
Are pretty I think
Put a catch in my throat
Make me do a double take
With a beauty placed here
For our sake!!

Grandma shares a love of words with us by providing a weekly challenge. The above picture is found at succinctly yours. It is your mission, should you choose to accept, to write a short story using the photo as inspiration and including the bonus word "noted" if you like. Our stories should be 140 characters/words or less. How low can you go?

Hoping you have a blessed Christmas with all the joy the Christ child can provide!  Hugs!

Alone with his umbrella

Sunday, December 15, 2013

In the dreary room once stayed
A little man alone, afraid
The only weapon that he had
Was his umbrella, oh so sad….

Have you been to Grandma's Goulash yet? No? Why not? She holds a weekly challenge called Succinctly yours and with her furnished photo we get to weave a story of 140 words/characters or less. Better yet, use the bonus word; which this week is "umbrella". Hey, how low can you go?

Twas a Cold Wintry Night

Sunday, December 8, 2013

May hadn’t been out since the harvest ball and now knew why. Her back made her freeze in her tracks. 81/101

Who/what stood ahead?
Her mind was filled with dread
You reap what you sow
So harvest time had come
Going out after dark
Was pretty dumb….

Why did her car have to die on a night like this? She had been waiting after harvest to get it fixed.  80/102

Twas a cold wintry night
Tho Harvest was now past
She was going to the
Harvest ball,
If anyone asked.

Grandma has offered the above picture for our microfiction challenge this week. Our mission; should we choose to accept it; is to concoct a story using 140 characters/words or less and as a bonus use the bonus word of the week. This week it is "harvest". Join us at and show us just how low you can go.

To be or not to be...dinner!

The winner gets to run for the border! 31/38

The one, who keeps the other one up gets to eat, not be eaten. The rest run for the border. 72/93

The Toms wanted to be fair
There were hungry people out there
One would be finished for sure
Depending on who could endure?

A final night to play
There wasn’t much to say
Tomorrow was Thanksgiving Day. 64/76

Welcome to the challenge of the fittest. He bid farewell then would head south of the border. 77/94

Have you visited Grandma yet? She offers a weekly micro-fiction challenge. She provides a photo and a weekly bonus word. This week the bonus word is "border". The word was a bit challenging for me. :-)

What are you waiting for? Visit Grandma at succinctly yours and show us how low you can go!!

A Warm Wintry Day

Sunday, November 17, 2013

As the winner of the annual snowbird raffle he won the chance to see himself wintering in warmer weather. What a gimmick! 100/121

He was the victim of a gimmick. The winning entry allowed him to visit a warmer climate, degrees warmer?! 87/105

He tricked so many seniors they secretly called him Mr Gimmick so he was the perfect patsy for the contest. 88/108

George Gimmick ever so sly
Tricking seniors so by and by
They foiled him sent him away
To a “warmer” wintry day.  91/110

Grandma at Grandma's Goulash offers a fun word challenge called succinctly yours. She supplies the photo and we get to offer up our interpretation using 140 characters/words or less. Her bonus word this week is "gimmick". How low can you go?

The Flying Dinner Challenge

Sunday, November 3, 2013

Her owner fed her a steady diet of cilantro but she'd die without meat. Would the birds notice her if she sat real still? 98/122

~ OR ~

After a cilantro entre she quietly waited for dessert - bird pie. 54/66

Her perch granted her the perfect vantage point as she watched the chickens tending the cilantro garden. 88/105

Oh pretty kitty
Sitting up high
Fancying birds
Who fly in the sky

Such a long time
Since she dined on meat
A cilantro dinner
Was not quite a treat!

This post linked to succinctly yoursGrandma offers a wonderful word challenge. She offers a picture and we are given the opportunity to create a short short story of 140 characters/words or less. This work the bonus word was cilantro.

What can you do with the challenge this week? Don't leave this poor kitty unrecognized!

His owners thought it would be fun to dress up and explore the vacant mansion on the hill. 73/91

or And they say humans reason better? I say their heads are vacant! 53/65

or without the bonus word:

I eat hot dogs, not pose as one! 25/33

What are you going to dress as? Potato salad? 37/46

The Lovely and not so Lovely..

Iridescent cloud

Parking lot improvements

About friendship

Glorious sunset

My week has been loaded with lovely and not so lovely splashes of orange and I thought I would share some of them with you. The construction crew which have invaded our work area are not so "lovely" in fact they are downright messy, but I suppose it will look wonderful when they complete their work. Many of us were upset when they chopped down some of our wonderful trees that would grace our walk way into work. I especially miss my favorite golden rain tree. Then when they blocked off many of our streets, parking lots, and entrance ways into work, we began to like them even less...We have to leave for work earlier, walk further and do not even have the beautiful glimpses of the trees to calm our crazy days.

But, as you can see, I found God's lovely handiwork elsewhere. Construction crews do not hinder our wonderful creator. He can make beauty anywhere, anytime!

This post linked to orange you glad it's Friday?!!

The Swinging Toddler

Sunday, October 20, 2013

Hanging his head in defeat he realized he wasn't keen on this activity. 59/72

Since he wasn't keen on ball, he left his team in the field and hid out here. 61/78

Seeing he was not keen on swinging, Abri tried to cheer him on. 51/64

Grandma's Goulash offers a wonderful weekly challenge. She supplies a photo and a bonus word - this week it is "keen". We get to try our hand at writing a short short story of 140 characters/words or less. Her challenge is called succinctly yours. How low can you go?

Crazy Lady six Floors up

Saturday, October 19, 2013

Hubby won some promo points which entitled us to a free night of hotel accommodations. I crossed my fingers and put in a request for the day off and got it. It was great; A get-away; no dishes; no work; just hubby and I...I oohed and ahhed all the way up at the awesome autumn colors but was unable to take photos from the highway, plus it rained the entire way up. Hubby was truly tired of my exclamations so we talked about other things. Friday morning the sun came out and I took a couple of shots from things in the room and out the window. He thinks I am a crazy lady. He's right; crazy about nature. The photo of the fire was taken at 10 p.m. so it came out poorly.

This post linked oygif. Hope you are enjoying your weekend. Take care and God bless!
