Giving "Birth"

Aimee` and Faith

I am calling this post "Giving Birth" as I have had 4 grand daughters and 1 great grand daughter in less than a year, and I likened my daughter Aimee's  drive to start her own business as "giving birth".

My daughter, Aimee` and I talked after church while I held her baby, Faith. She told me that she was still thinking about pursuing her dream of becoming an interior decorator. She has a real knack for decorating but knows that with economy being what it is, redecorating is going to take a back seat for many people. Some of us live pay day to pay day without a cushion. Remember when you used to hear "pay yourself first" as our elders used to recommend tucking away for a rainy day. Well, it's raining now.

She asked me to set up a blog for her with an intro offer of $100. for one room but the price is totally negotiable depending upon what you would really like her to do for you. I called her back to find out what she wanted for a name. She had run out of minutes, so no answer. I went with "Classy on a shoestring" because I know she does everything classy and economical (cheap). Then later we all met at my youngest daughter's house for a pot luck/cook out in celebration of Memorial day and Aimee`'s birthday. I showed her the template on my laptop, but she wanted her blog's name to be "For a Change". I can change the name in the header, which I did, but now how do I change it in the url? If you click the link below her picture you will see what I mean, the url is still reflecting the original title I selected. Silly me!

This post linked to Friday Sillies. Thanks Cathy for hosting. Thanks everyone for your visit. Take care, God bless, and stay healthy!

BTW - I know her picture is dark. It  was dark outside and Aimee` is VERY camera shy, so I am hoping I will get away with posting this! :-)

Clark Lake on Memorial day

Clark Lake on Memorial day

Clark Lake on Memorial day

Chris, Mari, Shaon, Anthony, Abriele, and I went for an outing on Memorial day. We decided to visit one of Michigan's many lakes, Clark lake, one I had never been to before. Mari and I sat in the shade with Abriele. She is much too young to sit in the sun. Chris and his nephews swam like fishes.

I hope you enjoyed your Memorial day. Thank you for the visit. Take care, stay healthy and God bless!!

Clouds reflected in the store front

A window into the sky

My mother had a saying "Don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see." As a child I puzzled over this a lot. After all, wasn't I "hearing" her say this? This photo looks like a window into the sky when it is a "reflection" of the sky, so maybe this is one of those instances?

Thankful Thursday - Today

Wednesday, May 16, 2012

Today is ours
but only this precise minute
We need to enjoy it
and every facet in it
Yesterday is gone
and never will return
Tomorrow is full of things
 for which we yearn
But is still not promised,
but always 'round the bend
The place we build dreams
and perhaps we make amend
So grab this precious moment
 hold it to your breast
Treasure it, treat it well
and for this you'll be blessed.

Last night I got in from work and Mari told me her labor pains were less than five minutes apart so I talked her into going to the hospital. She had already had two false alarms so I had to convince her to go. She did not want to "bother" people or be embarrassed by going in and getting ready to have a baby who was not ready to make her appearance yet. I convinced her to go, however she still was reluctant. I told hubby and he met me at the kid's apartment and we took her in together.

She was so afraid she would be sent home again she told my son, her husband not to go but promised to call him if she was admitted. Hubby and I stayed until 2 a.m. at which time she had dilated to 3 and was given a gown and i.v. I made a call to my baby boy, and he showed up quickly as hubby and I went home.

At my job this morning around 9 a.m there were not many calls so they asked for volunteers to go home (without pay). Although I cannot afford it, I volunteered and called the kids to see if they needed anything and they did, so I stopped and picked up Mari's overnight bag and Chris' cell phone charger before heading to her hospital room where they were both waiting. Hubby was already there.
  :-)

I am so glad I did because at 2:17 today our baby was born. She weighs 8 lbs. 14 ozs and is 21 inches long. She has a wonderful head of dark curly hair and a lusty pair of lungs. She cried the moment the doctor helped her make her entrance making a very noticeable entry. So today is baby Abriele's birth day. The beginning of something we expect to be spectacular.

God bless you baby Abriele and God bless her parents as they love and nurture her. It is such an awesome responsibility and opportunity. God does not give this gift to everyone so we must truly appreciate what he has bestowed.

If my daughter in law had not trusted me and gone to the hospital I wonder if things would have gone differently, but my thoughts are going much deeper -

1. Do you treasure your moments treating each one as if it is the only one?
2. Or do you take it for granted that you will always have tomorrow?

I try to appreciate and treasure my time, but sometimes do forget to be appreciative. God is truly an awesome God. Sometimes life gives us obstacles (such as labor pains) but the rewards are great.

This post linked to Two Questions Thursday. Thank you for your kind visit. Take care, stay healthy and God bless. Please visit Amanda's. The conversation is just beginning and I am sure you have something remarkable to add. :-)

Congrats Anne!

Anne Lyken-Garner's Sunday's Child

ANNE LYKEN-GARNER is the author of Sunday's Child, a riveting true-life tale of overcoming the worst of systematic emotional and physical abuse.

About The Book:

Sunday's Child tells of the harrowing systematic abuse of a little girl by her grandmother, while giving the reader a glimpse of the political and cultural climate of 1980's Guyana. In a desperate economic crisis, Guyana is forced to resort to food and energy rationing. Acclaimed author Anne Lyken-Garner's tale picks up on the humorous aspects that the young girl experiences while forced to spend hours in food lines, simultaneously unfolding the sadness and desperation that is her everyday life.

A soldier in Jonestown, where more than nine hundred people committed mass suicide, the young girl's uncle tells her of the dead bodies he's seen - but she doesn't mention the one that she herself has witnessed. When she loses the one person in her life who cares for her - and tries to save her - she knows in her heart that her life is about to end...

Anne can also be found on her How To Build Confidence blog. All her confidence-building articles here are gleaned from her life’s experiences, which have taught her that your past doesn’t’ have to shape who you are today. Thankful Thursday - Mother's day

Finley's place mat

My son and his wife totally spoiled me for my birthday. I was taken to Burlington's to get a few outfits and then out to eat. Then hubby took my mother and I out to eat at Finley's. You eat there free on your birthday. (Sorry about the wet spots on my place mat. The waitress put Mom and my ice waters on it.) Something bothered Mom and I as we checked out their place mats.

1. Just wondering if you notice the same thing we did? I will respond back in the comments on this one.

2. I hope all Moms have a wonderful mother's day and want to ask what your favorite way to celebrate is. Guys can answer too, as I am sure you had/have a Mom in your life. :-) The things I loved most that my children would do for me were personal things like a home made card or gift, or breakfast in bed. I love the thoughtful gestures.

Thankful Thursday - Humor

Wednesday, May 2, 2012

Humor is effective in making our point, softening the harder edges but making our point without hurting feelings. We have heard "Laughter is the best medicine." but just how much better is it? If you have ever sat down to watch an action movie you know how the fast paced action can have you sitting on the edge of you seat. You will notice who tense your body is once the climax of the movie is over. Now compare this with that of your body language during a comedy. You should be able to feel a visible and physical difference. It turns out that laughter is even better than we thought. Chan Lee Peng just finished an article about what the studies have found out. Thanks, Chan!

1. Do you enjoy a humorous movie or a comedy show on occasion?

2. What is your favorite joke?
