Thankful Thursday - Impossibility

Wednesday, February 29, 2012

I'm browsing through a book called "The Power for True Success"  written by the Institute in Basic Life Principles. When I read the title on one of the pages "The "Secret" of Character Building - Knowing it is Impossible!" I was dumbfounded. Wait a minute, haven't we been taught that nothing is impossible; that we should not use the word "can't"? Aren't we supposed to believe that we can pierce that "glass ceiling" and we can accomplish the not yet accomplished? I want someone to tell me how I can reach new goals. I have been told already to stay in my place by some, and encouraged by others that we no longer have to be governed by these boundaries.

I am puzzled!

So I read further. We are reminded that keeping God's commandments is impossible but Deuteronomy 18:13 advises us to be perfect. What? Me perfect? Now that is impossible.

But when we strive for perfection, when we seek out the impossible, who can we draw upon, but God? Is there anyone else who never fails? It is impossible for God to fail. Jesus did not calm the storm until the disciples called on him. The storm was there before. Jesus was there, but the answer did not come until the request was made.

1. Are you comfortable with who you are? I think I am a work in progress. I sincerely hope in all humility that God will help me be a better me.

2. Are their goals you are striving for? To be a better me and if I can become debt free along the way that would be awesome. :-)

Fashion Passion

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

I appreciate the guest post, Jewel Rodgers
My cousin and I moved to Texas in 2006 after finishing our business degrees and decided to take the leap and open our own. We got lucky and found a wonderful home and full time jobs and began saving every penny we could. It took us two years to obtain a business loan but we did it and together we discovered a little shop in a happening spot downtown. With our business budget in mind, we set out to find ways to save on each and every utility. I was eagerly learning all I could aboutTXU energy information finding the electricity provider for our area. My cousin took control of all the other utilities and we had the lights on and the doors open within weeks of closing the contract. We have developed some great relationships with unique vendors and artist in the area. The boutique is ever evolving and we carry a beautiful line of fashion forward accessories and brand names to please any fashion lover .

Day Bursts Forth

Friday, February 17, 2012

Day begins.
To leave -
I must.
I shake off
The stardust
I wash the sleep
From sleepy eyes
And here I see
To my surprise
The golden streaks
Within the skies
To my left
And to my right
I see the sun
Shine forth
Her light
As God shares
With me
His great delight

Thankful Thursday - Words

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

Words; aren't they fascinating, compelling, and awesome?  I have long had this fascination for words. I am in awe of those who can speak two languages and so have command of words in more than one language, and me I stop and ponder searching for the perfect word to descibe what it is I want to say and only have one language to contend with. :-) Sometimes, though I love and adore words, they are inadequate. Feelings are so intense that I stumble in my mind to find the perfect ones. They seem to be just beyond my grasp hanging out some place in space.

One of those times was after the birth of my first child. As I gazed at him with tears streaming down my cheeks euphoria took over. My heart was joyous and grateful but no words came to mind, just an extreme closeness and gratitude to God mingled with a fear of the tremendous responsibility which lay ahead; a fear of not being equal to the task and not being worthy of the gift.

1. Do you remember a time when you were caught speechless?

2. Is it something you can share with us?

Please join us at Amanda's Thursday Two Questions. The party is just starting. There is a lot to talk about. Thanks for joining me. Take care, stay healthy and God bless.

My Logo on Display

Saturday, February 11, 2012

One of the things I enjoyed  in my ten years of working retail was new product displays coming in. New products are often innovative and the displays would be colorful and artistically created plus we got to see it first. Next we had to pick which end cap to house our new display and for the finishing touches; the logo canopy. It was very rewarding to see customers check out the new display and add the item to their carts. It also gave me a good background for opening my own business later.

Studying the marketing techniques used by corporate headquarters I tried to gather tips and tricks to make my own business grow. I had spent months sewing my own unique designs and now I wanted to let people see them. A friend told me about a flea market in our neighborhood where you could rent a booth for $15.00 for the day. I wanted my day to be worthwhile so before making my arrangement I looked into ways to make my booth stand out.

I already knew lots of people from my years of retail but I had to draw their attention to my stand and impress them. I purchased business cards to hand out once I got them to stop at my booth. Now my mind was focused on how to get them to stop and not just stop but to be impressed with my professionalism and my product. A professional looking display can make such a huge difference in your sales. Some of the logo mats and trade show flooring they came equipped with made me stop and do a double take. Imagine my own logo printed on the floor.

Thankful Thursday - Shaon

Wednesday, February 8, 2012

In November I made a trip to my attic looking for Christmas ornaments to help Chris and Mari decorate their first tree and to my surprise I came across this photo that Ruby had taken just about 16 1/2 years ago. You see, Shaon turned 17 on Sunday.  When he was born he weighed 1 lb 7 ozs. and went down to 1 lb 2 ozs. before he began to gain weight. Before we could bring him home months later, we (my daughter, Ruby and I) had to take infant CPR classes. He came home with a monitor and oxygen tank. Look at this happy guy. This is after he was able to breathe completely on his own.

When my daughter's twins were little, Shaon used to get up early in the morning with them on week ends so my daughter could get some much needed rest. He is a wonderful big brother who takes pride in being a role model to the younger ones. He is active in sports, and they are active in dance, basketball and hockey. When given the choice of taking the bus or walking to school, he picked walking for the exercise.

He is Mom's right hand, and also comes over to help me with chores in a pinch.  Their living room wall displays some of his paintings and the air is full of his laughter. God bless you, Shaon, on your birthday. He inspires me.

Jesus spoke of the children leading us into the kingdom and I truly believe that our young have pure and beautiful hearts. It is up to us to nurture them and encourage them and then to learn to return to the innocence of our youth.

1. What do you think our worst mistake is when raising our young? I think parents are far too indulgent and afraid to say no to them while not giving them the encouragement, understanding, and discipline that they need.

2. What is the most effective punishment? I always found that taking privileges away worked real well. I used to have game systems and televisions in my car trunk when I went to work. The children had to earn their entertainment systems back by improving their grades or behavior.

Thankful Thursday - Health

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

Nothing touches the heart
Like a baby's smile
All the pain and discomfort
Now worthwhile
The sleepless nights,
The stomach upsets
The swollen feet,
As bad as they get
Are just a faded memory
Placed in the past
The sweet little bundle is home
At last...

Grandma Judy

We are so happy to now have Faith home with us. She is such a pretty little girl and you would never guess her struggles to see her now. God is so good.  We give Him all the glory for bringing our little one out of the danger zone and home safe and sound.

Have you had a recent miracle which you know for certain that God played a part in? This is our second miracle baby. The second one who went down to 1 lb. 2 ounces before gaining weight. I have only one question tonight, but if you check in with Amanda at Thursday Two Questions there are sure to be more questions. Join in the conversation. We are interested in what you have to say.

Thanks so much for your visit. Take care, God bless and stay healthy.
