Fuchsia or Lady's Ear Drops

Monday, June 6, 2011

I'm not sure. Are they red? Are they hot pink? Reader's Digest Illustrated Guide to Gardening states they are purple, red, white or blue. Mom's were purple and red and such vibrant shades that I was afraid my camera would cheat us by not showing the true color. The colors are truly rich and it is hard to imagine without actually seeing the flowers.

Fuchsia magellanicas, also called Lady's ear drops generally open in late summer. I am sure my mom's were forced to open early as they were purchased by my sister for our mother for mother's day.

These are said to be good as a shrub, bedding plant, trained in tree form or in window boxes or hanging baskets. Mom's hang in her terrace and the cascading flowers are quite stunning.

This is not a paid ad. I have books at home about this particular flower but in researching for a link for you I came across this contest with wonderful information about some of our favorite flowers.  Just thought I would share it with you. :-) This post linked to Ruby Tuesday. Thanks so much for your visit! Take care and God bless!

Love this flower Judy. I don't believe we have it here but I think it will be much lovelier to look at it up close and personal :)

Fuchsias are so pretty, most of the ones I have seen look more hot pink than true red. I have never heard the name Lady's Ear Drops but those little blooms would make pretty earrings.

The third photo is so crisp that the flowers could almost be mistaken for earrings. They are very pretty!

Fuchsia is so pretty, and the colors are just fantastic. I always wanted to take the pictures of fuchsia upside down.

They are so perfect, they don't look real.
