Challenges and Sunrises

Thursday, March 31, 2011

I am only one; but still I am one.
I cannot do everything,
but still I can do something;

I will not refuse the something
I can do.
~
Helen Keller

Challenges can be stepping stones or stumbling blocks,
It's just a matter of how you view them.

Heading in to work the other day I noticed that God graced the sky with a beautiful sunrise and golden glow; just what I needed to head into the challenge of a ten hour day. God is good. He lights our path! This post linked to Skywatch Friday.

Thank you for visiting me today. Take care and God bless!

Blue Skies Bless My Eyes

Friday, March 25, 2011

A broad brush  dipped in blue carresses a sunny  sky

With fluffy cotton colored clouds slowly rolling by

Warm and sunny rays upon golden limbs alight
Flooding my eyes and heart with such warm delight.

Recycle, Reuse

Thursday, March 24, 2011

I love warehouse shopping. Prices are so much more reasonable, but they either charge you for shopping bags, or you can use one of their discarded boxes. Since I pay for garbage pick up, using boxes to carry home groceries can mean more refuge for me and higher costs. Sometimes I use the boxes to take donations to thrift stores in or care packages for the children but generally I have more boxes than I need. So I  was grateful when I came across a "green" idea the other day. And what makes this idea even better is that it costs nothing. Now I have a neat little tissue box full of shopping bags tucked neatly in my car for the next time impulse hits me and I stop at the warehouse to get some groceries.

What do you do with your empty box after you used the last tissue? If you save your shopping bags you can store them in an old tissue box. The box will store your bags neatly and in a small confined area.  You can even donate a box full to your favorite thrift store. This way you can reuse, recycle and save our planet.
1. What is your favorite way to save money?
2. What is your favorite way to recycle?

Cats sleep
Anywhere
Any table
Any chair
Top of piano
Window ledge
In the middle
On the edge.

"Cats"

The way to get on with a cat is to treat it as an equal--or even better, as the superior it knows itself to be. ~ Elizabeth Peters

The Wonderful Boring Whiteness of Winter

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Wondering about the weather, when it will change to spring
Weary of the whiteness of snow on everything

Whining and complaining
wanting warmer days
Whining is just
a temporary phase

Then I hear of earthquakes
upon other shores
Nuclear reactors have added to their chores
Worries and dangers mount
Impossible to count
Wouldn't they trade their earthquakes for a winter day?
The boring whiteness of winter is wonderful today!

We are celebrating "W" today for Alphabe-Thursday. Get out your thinking caps and join in the fun at Jenny Matlock's, but on a more serious note, Japan is dealing bravely with life threatening catatastrophes. If you or someone you know would like to donate to the cause here is a link to help:

Thankful Thursday - Passion

Wednesday, March 9, 2011

I am so blessed. My life is full of passion

I am a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, wife, and a friend. I have a passion for writing, researching, natural remedies, photography... My passions are so strong they are like a lust; an obsession. I am insatiable. I had to work Saturday and met my good friend Jeannie after work at our favorite Chinese restaurant. Even though I knew we were meeting to eat out, the pretty blue skies called out to me. I had to take pictures of them. When I stopped at a red light, my window was down and my camera out. Obsessed? Maybe. Compelled? Yes. Blessed? Definitely!!

I fall in love weekly, sometimes daily

I hear about another herbal remedy (for instance) and I have a dozen books open looking for information. I am researching online, hunting up pictures and creating content. At that moment that particular topic is the love of my life. :-) The creation is my "baby".

Question 1. How does your family feel about your "passions"?  With my family it runs the gambit from annoyed to encouraging. I think it depends on not only who you ask, but when you ask them. :-)

Question 2. Do you think your passions enhance your life? I feel that mine adds a valuable element to mine that is irreplaceable.

Thanks so much for visiting me today.

I hope you join us in our Thursday Two Questions. It is a great way to get to know one another and to stimulate your mind. Take care and God bless!

Stylish Bloggers

Life is overflowing
No matter where you're going
The beauty is showing
And its wonderful knowing
That there is a God above
Who blesses us with love
And grants us glorious skies
Before our very eyes
~
Nature by God
poem by Judy

Cathy Kennedy has kindly awarded me with the Stylish Blogger Award. I have had trouble finding fifteen new blogs to pass on the award to, but I had no trouble finding worthy bloggers. If I have not offered the award to you and you are interested, please take the award and post it proudly on your blog, then find recipients and pass the award on. I am certain the goal of giving and receiving of blogging awards is to share what we have such an abundance of; talent, beauty, and wonderful words. The rules state I am to share 7 things about myself. I hope I do not bore you because I find each and everyone of you so fascinating and feel that I am pretty ordinary.

  1. I am grandmother to 24, great grandmother to 3 and there are 2 more grandchildren on the way.
  2. I was raised a Quaker. I started attending the Quaker Friends church with my second grade school teacher.
  3. We attended second grade in the country in a one room schoolhouse, and this is where I developed my love for drawing.
  4. I have written poetry since fifth grade, and had a song published then.
  5. I have a passion for writing and for alternative health, so I combine the two.
  6. I have a greater passion for Christ.
  7. I am truly blessed with many wonderful friends online and off. I count them as precious gifts.

Please visit the recipients of the Stylish Blogger Award and congratulate them:

Thanks so much for visiting me and God bless!

Thankful Thursday - God's tugs

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

Right before my very eyes
He painted brilliant skies
Who says that skies are only blue?
I'll tell you that's not true.
And in case you wondered
I have for you some news
Our Father's brush is dipped in
Multi-colored hues

Hubby's birthday was yesterday. I got out from work shortly after 6 pm and received a call from him on my cell telling me he was going to Finley's for his free birthday meal and asking if I would like to go. So I met him at home and we went out to eat. On the way out he stopped at the gas station and as I sat outside bored my  boredom turned to amazement. The skies were quickly painted in brilliant shades of fushia, powder blue, pink and even red. It was not in the most scenic place. It was not at the most perfect time, but it was amazing. I quickly  snapped a couple of pictures before my husband came out from the store so we could be on our way. I do not care how busy I am; how pressed my time is; how many different directions my mind is racing; God directs my attention back to Him. His means are both powerful and subtle, both natural and supernatural, both passive and passionate...He tugs at my heart much like my children, stirring something deep and profound.

Please participate in Thursday Two Questions! The conversation is lively.

My two questions:

1) Is there something you wish you had more time for? I have many passions and find my calendar has not enough days and the days not enough hours.

2) What  would it be? I want more time to visit you, more time to write, visit family, friends, clean house, work crafts and perform kindness. It seems there is never enough time, which is another reason why I so appreciate God's beauty. He takes time for us when we have no time. He is forever giving.

Thanks so much for your visit. Take care and God bless.
