A Little Bit of my Weekend

Monday, February 28, 2011

Poncho entertains Jeannie and I while we do the laundry. I caught him admiring himself by looking at his reflection in the window by his cage. When I came by with the camera, he was only too happy to pose.

Buddy seems to be jealous. He started squawking. I think he wanted his picture taken too, but he is not allowed out of his cage because the owners of the laundromat tell me he tends to take off.

I had to work Saturday morning. I pulled into the parking lot at 7:35 and was greeted by this sunrise.

This greeted me at home.

Saturday night Jeannie and I stopped at Meijer for a few groceries and prescriptions. We could not resist walking through the flowers while we waited for the prescription to be filled. We enjoyed the kalanchoe and orchids.

A Fairy Dilemma

She dropped the magic pill carefully and prayed the spell would work. All that was left of him was one shoe so she had to hurry or lose him. ~140~

This post linked to Susan at Stony River.  She posts a weekly picture and allows us to put our spin on it for 140 characters or less. You can get your characters counted at Design 215 so what are you waiting for?

I am looking forward to your take on this pic.

My DIY home library

Wednesday, February 23, 2011

Guest post written by Aubrey Nicholson

We have a spare bedroom that never gets used for anything besides storage, so I got an idea over the holidays to convert it into a little home library. It's big enough for a bed and also a little sitting are so I thought that if we installed some bookshelves all along one wall I could probably still use it as a guest bedroom when we do have people stay over.
I went online to figure out a way that we could build a custom bookshelf into the wall of the room sot that it would look a little nicer than just putting a bookshelf in there. When I was online I came across a Baltimore Clear wireless internet online offer that sounded really great so I decided to sign up for the offer and change over our internet service by doing that.
I found an idea for a book cubby, which would allow us to use the cubbies built into the wall for other uses if we want to later on down the road.

Get a Free Auto Insurance Quote

A few years ago I puzzled over a newspaper article that warned drivers of the dangers of pothole damage to their vehicle. In Michigan we are accustomed to dealing with huge potholes as spring breaks. Flowers bloom and the roads sprout huge holes! But the kicker to this article was a warning by the city that damages were not the responsibility of the city unless they were advised of the whereabouts of the pothole at least 30 days in advance. Does that make sense? Would I warn the city of a pothole then purposely drive into it? I had to smile at this.

But seriously, once a year my husband checks the rates of various auto insurance companies to ensure that we are getting not only the best price but the best insurance for our dollar. It is mandatory in our state that one maintains insurance on their vehicle so comparing companies and their rates is a wise move. Today's technology makes it even easier. I have found a number of sites that offer free quotes and I like the idea of getting them before I get on the phone. I pay for minutes on my phone.

If you are confused by the jargon used by insurance agents; collision, comprehension, liability, deductible, full coverage, no fault, and so forth you will like this site too.  They break it down in easy to understand layman terms. After we experience an accident or loss is not the time to familiarize ourselves with these terms and find out what and how much our insurance covers. At this site you can get these questions answered and more without having to leave home. This information is invaluable and can save you immeasurably in the long run.

This post linked to Thursday Two Questions. My questions are:

1. Do you think it should be lawful to mandate that drivers have insurance? I wonder if we did not mandate insurance who would pay the liability from accidents.

2. Does your particular locale have a policy which you find puzzling, such as our city advising that we have to first advise of the pothole before claiming damages?

Thanks so much for your visit. Take care and God bless. Hey, it's Thursday and the weekend is almost here!

We need the job!

Can we get this entire floor stripped and waxed before the staff arrives in the morning? Because if we can't the job is a no go.

The sky from my window

Friday, February 18, 2011

I was without my car for one day short of a week. The week end before last I stayed in bed most the week end so did not get an opportunity to go anywhere. I used most of the week end for a self imposed voice rest knowing my job would require every bit of voice I could muster.  Then Thursday evening as I tried to start my car to return home I got an awful sound; click, click click.  After "grounding" myself the previous weekend, I was so looking up to running errands on my weekend!

I called hubby and he came and gave me a jump to no avail. So we locked the car and went home.  These are pictures I took from the window of my husband's RV. See the street sign in the second picture? He used to fuss at me for wasting film (none needed), then he fussed cause I was wasting batteries (rechargeable), now it's because I'm wasting time. I wasn't driving. He was. :-) It's not like I can do the dishes while riding, now is it? Besides taking pictures of God's wonders is not a waste of time. :-)

Thanks so much for visiting. This post is linked to Sky watch Friday. Take care and God bless!

Is it about love or lovers?

Monday, February 14, 2011

Does your heart swell with pride
When your children smile real wide?

Does a lump form in your throat
When he helps you with your coat?

Do those little things mean much
Because your love is such?
It's not diamonds and pearls
For all of God's girls
There are some like me
Who appreciate sincerity.

What a beautiful busy weekend!

My baby boy's girl was in town. We celebrated her birthday and my oldest son's birthday. Ruby made a wonderful fish fry and Chris (bb) bought a birthday cake for the two of them. We played bid whist and other games with the children, we took pictures, laughed, joked, hugged and ate. Two days later, my husband went to visit Ruby and her children to find the home warmly decorated for Valentine's day. There money was generously spent in the wonderful family get together, but DeShaon took special delight in buying his mother the card he is holding and a balloon bouquet. He modestly insisted that it was nothing. When a teen unselfishly gives to their mother like that it says something about the love their mother has instilled in them. I did not get a card, flowers, jewelry or any of the like from my hubby, but my daughter's goodies made my day! And my son's girl, Mari bought me a box of York peppermint patties.

Prior to my hubby and I getting married there was one Valentine's day when we were on the outs. Baby girl, Ruby, showed up at my job with a beautiful bouquet of flowers because she thought I would be depressed on Valentine's day. I was, but soon I felt so much better. Is Valentine's day about lovers or about love? Long ago I instilled in my children that the thought of the gift and the act of giving is so much more than the cost of the gift. Hold my door, smile, say something sweet or thoughtful. I do not need you to buy me flowers. I will get my own. Give me your thoughts and your heart, and I will truly be rich. I will give mine in return.

This post linked to Ruby Tuesday. Happy Valentine's day. I truly hope your Valentine's day was full of love. Mine was!! :-)  Thank you for visiting me and God bless.

My Father's Artwork

Friday, February 11, 2011

My Father is an artist, his brush strokes share delight
The glorious golden
hues light up the skies at night

I dug these pictures out of my archives from ones I took last fall. I hope you enjoy them. I truly enjoyed my few moments of respite that night and can relive them from looking at them now. ;-) His colors are just awesome.

Reds to Record

Monday, February 7, 2011

In the petals sweet
Of flowers of mine

The ruby color
Of a sip of wine

The vibrancy
Can't be ignored

And the beauty
Is one to record

Thank you for visiting. Take care and God bless!

Adopt a dog...

Sunday, February 6, 2011

A good friend is like a good bra; uplifting, supportive, and comfortable. I've stayed in all weekend with my virus/cold and my good friend, Jeannie has been emailing me tips to get well, get well cards and jokes. Here is one of the jokes she sent me. She knows that laughter is the best medicine!

If you want someone who will eat whatever you put in front of him
and never say it's not quite as good as his mother's

Adopt a dog...

If you want someone who is always willing to go out, at any hour,
for as long and wherever you want

then adopt a dog...

If you want someone who will never touch the remote, doesn't care
about football, and can sit next to you as you watch romantic movies

Then adopt a dog...

If you want someone who is content to get on your bed just to
warm your feet and whom you can push off if he snores

adopt a dog...

If you want someone who never criticizes what you do, doesn't care
if you are pretty or ugly, fat or thin, young or old, who acts as if
every word you say is especially worthy of listening to, and loves
you unconditionally, perpetually ..

adopt a dog....

BUT, on the other hand, if you want someone who will never come
when you call, ignores you totally when you come home, leaves hair
all over the place, walks all over you, runs around all night and only
comes home to eat and sleep, and acts as if your entire existence
is solely to ensure his happiness .

adopt a cat...

You thought I was going to say marry a man, didn't you? I hope this brought a smile to your face. Send it  to your male friends to annoy them and your female friends to make them smile.

Now you have a good day!!
Thanks for visiting and God bless you today.

Thankful Thursday - Help

Wednesday, February 2, 2011

In Michigan our world is covered in a thick blanket of snow. The only places (outdoors) that are not covered are because man has removed the snow. Our custodial staff has just shoveled our walkway at work and is now pouring salt down to melt the falling snow. (center bottom pic)

There was almost 2 feet of snow at the end of my driveway!

This morning I got up and went out to heat up my car finding snow up to my ankles and higher in some spots. At the end of my driveway our road crew had piled about two feet of hard packed snow. I started shoveling but as I glanced at my watch and blew my nose repeatedly (caught a cold yesterday) I begin to get worried. I knew I had to leave for work in half an hour. Could I get this cleared in time? I went inside and called BB. My baby boy, Chris, has a wonderful heart, and I am not just saying that because he is my son. He just got off work, as he works third shift. "What cha doing?" I ask. "Why?" he asked.

I was running out of time.

"Sweetie, I feel like crap. I caught a cold and have to be to work shortly. I don't think I can get the driveway cleared fast enough to make it to work on time." Chris says, well, I'm 15 minutes away, and asked if I thought he could help. Now you tell me, a young strapping man standing over 6 feet tall or a 50+ woman.. who is going to get a car out of a snowed in drive first?

I made it to work in time

Thanks, Chris. I offered to give him gas money and he refused. He cleared me out and we wished each other a good day. He's off to sleep and me to work.

  1. Ever notice how in-climate weather brings out the best in people?
  2. Has anyone done something special for you lately?
