My Two Questions?

Wednesday, September 29, 2010

We are bloggers. We fearlessly get up close and personal with the "critters" for the sake of an interesting photo, but my friend Jeannie was simply watering her garden. One bee stung her 25 times. She was covered with stings. She is allergic to bees and is also asthmatic. First she stripped then gave herself a shot and a breathing treatment; then took benadryl. Her husband dug this "nest" out of the ground in the corner of her garden.

Question 1. What kind of bee is this?

Question 2. Should I merge my two other blogs into one?

Now I am depending on you to share your wisdom. :-) Join us at My Two Questions.

Take care and God bless!

Kiss the Kitten

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

Kiss the kitten on her soft fur
Be careful not to awaken her
Her mother lifts her head to see
Who is kissing her kitty

Well it's a little kid named Kate
She kissed because she couldn't wait
For the kitten to wake to play
Because it was the break of day.

Are Your Utility Bills Rising?

Saturday, September 25, 2010

For a few years now I have been in pursuit of the glorious red setting sun, but this morning, when I pulled into the parking lot of my job, I was stunned by this glorious orange sky with a rising yellow sun. God is like that, He gives us His idea of beauty, not ours. :-)

Notice the electrical wires and telephone wires. While they are not particularly pretty, they are mainstays in our lives unless we live on a deserted island where there are no modern conveniences. How can we enjoy modern conveniences without getting socked with utilities bills as large as our mortgage?

In the article Cutting Costs on Electricity helpful hints are provided re bringing your bills down without sacrificing comfort. This article will evaluate energy use room by room and lay out conservation tips  for each season. For example; did you know that your cell phone charger can cost you an additional $5.00 a month simply by remaining plugged in while you are not recharging your phone? Multiply this by the life of your phone and you will realize unplugging this will create a substantial savings (for this one item alone).

At you will find a wealth of information and tools based on your zip code such as:

  • energy conservation for your area
  • where to find the most efficient appliances at the best prices, including ENERGY STAR® appliances
  • rebates on those much wanted appliances
  • a free energy audit for your home and/or business
  • licensed contractors in your area that can assist you in heating and cooling projects is approved by the Better Business Bureau.

Thank you for visiting me today. I hope this article is beneficial to you.

I have a chart of typical operating costs for major appliances, so if you are curious about something, let me know. For example; a chest freezer - automatic defrost 10 - 20 cubic foot, 115-190 kwh/mo. will run from $10.32 to $17.04 a month. I have over a dozen items listed from dehumidifiers to clothes dryers.

Sunshine on the Golden-rain tree

Thursday, September 23, 2010

I'm a nut when it comes to the skies
A crystal blue sky can hypnotize

A few minutes of sun for our vitamin D
But several hours for the Golden-rain tree

Enjoying the clouds as they play peek a boo

I could do this all day. How bout you?

Bluest Water

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

Please click to see this picture better. This water was so blue the day I snuck off to get pictures. Even with all the leaves scattered on top of the water edges there was a clarity about the water that took my breath away. For more pictures of this pond check out my previous link.

Please join us in celebrating Watery Wednesday and have a great week! Take care and God bless!

A Strange Tree(s)

I had to do a double take when coming home the other day by an alternative route. This tree appears to be two trees merged into one. I could not see where one started and the other left off. :-) I would have liked to have gotten closer to it, but it was on private property a good ways off the street.

Too bad we cannot get along as well as nature does. :-) For more outdoor shots or to share yours visit Outdoor Wednesday and have a wonderful week!

Mystery Yellow Flower

Sunday, September 19, 2010

When skies were gray

Yellow flowers brightened my day

These beautiful vibrant flowers grabbed my attention at Jeannie's the other day. They grew along the roadside in front of a field.  I found it amazing that the centers of each flower were not the same. Male and female?

Join us for more sunny moments with Mellow Yellow and at Macro Monday!
Take care and God bless!

Two birthdays and an Anniversary

Saturday, September 18, 2010

My 24 year old baby boy and I went into Verizon  to discuss an alarming cell phone bill. After they reviewed his file they found that the error took place in July when he purchased a new phone at Best Buy and the clerk changed his plan. They reduced the minutes, halved his circle of friends, and took me off the plan. All these changes (without his knowledge) doubled the cell phone bill, so we may be looking for alternative ways to communicate shortly. Verizon advised it was not their error and they are not responsible. They emailed Best Buy, so we await their response. Meanwhile I am looking into alternative ways to settle this error.

It was a rainy day with the sun making short appearances throughout the day. I wanted to capture the sun on a rain drop. Not today, but one day.I snapped a few pictures and before arriving home got a text message from my 20 year old grandson to come and get him from my daughter's home. He wanted to spend some time with me. I picked him up and  he helped me to hang a shelf up - yes some place for more books. :-)

A grandson and a great grand daughter celebrated birthdays today. One turned six and the other one,  and as luck had it they had them at the same time and same place so Little Caesars was one of my stops today.  It was good to see so much of the family together at one time. Little ones ran, played, and bowled. The teens chatted and ate pizza, while adults did the same plus monitored and fed the little ones.Everyone seemed to be having a good time.

I then went to visit Jeannie for a minute and took more pictures at her house. Her wisteria looks much better than it did last year. It actually bloomed twice this year and has lots of leaves still. I also could not resist getting a couple of pictures of some yellow flowers which bloomed along the roadside of a field across the road from her farm.

Overall it was a busy day spent with family and friends, and my husband and I celebrated six years of marriage today. Take care and God bless. I hope your week end is memorable.

Greater is He that is in me....

Friday, September 17, 2010

I've done it again. I've stayed up later than my intention. My computer is just rumbling (make that grumbling) :-) along...My husband has gone off to bed without me, but I am drawn to my photos, stirred by my feelings, compelled to share. My God is an awesome God. It just boggles my mind that a God who can create such beauty loves me. I have added this photo to my photos at redbubble. It can be purchased as a print or a card.
I found Ruthi there (at redbubble) too!

In case you you don't want to click on the photo to enlarge but would like to know what the poem says:

There is something about the sky
That covers both you and I
Rather than feeling small
I feel six feet tall

Because "Greater is He that is in me
Than he that is in the world."
When I gaze into the sky.
His love becomes unfurled

Thankful Thursday - Replenishment

Thursday, September 16, 2010

Oh what a life
Of a mother, a wife
Working ten hour days
For very little pay
Days becoming dreary
The body gets weary
People call all day
About bills they cannot pay
They are hurt they are mad
It makes me feel real bad
I work a job within the world
Where rules are being hurled
Ones that demand we cannot say
That God will rule the day
If I would offer prayer
For the heart aches that they share
I'd be facing reprimand
In our world of shifting sand
God is the answer to this mess
While policy does persist
If only they could see
His love for you and me...
I dwell on the sorry state of things
When His beauty within me sings.
It lifts my spirits high
Like the beauty in the sky.

I work in a call center. I handle calls all day from people who are struggling to pay their bills. I can relate. I am struggling. I have children out of work. They are the parents of my grandchildren. You would have to live on a desert island to not know what state we are in. If we immerse ourselves in it, we risk burn out. Company policy does not allow us to mention our faith. The strongest tool we have and we cannot offer God's comfort or our prayers. It is He who sustains my day. When I feel like an empty vessel or a wrung out dish rag, it is He who brings me back to life. He lifts my spirits with His beauty, when I am not allowed to discuss him, I see Him, I feel Him. It saddens me that man works so hard to remove God's name while trying to state we are a christian nation. What hypocrites!

I pulled into the parking lot at work and took the first picture of my day. I tucked this beauty in my heart as I steeled myself for another day. It is posted above.

I went to the grocery shop tonight then home to cook and I took the last photo. He is here in our canopy of a sky. His love is ever present for both you and I! Icy, I hope you like the pictures! :-)  You always post such pretty ones! Take care & God bless.

Forbidden Beauty

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

Dozens or more times have I driven by this pond only glimpsing it from a far. It is tucked behind a marina. There are boats and a building blocking it from view. One day my husband was driving and I mentioned how tempted I was to get a peek of the pond. Unknowingly he encouraged me. He said so what if you took a few pictures, you wouldn't be hurting anything. I doubt you would get arrested...

I drove past my house last week when I was coming home from work. I drove right to this spot and pulled up into the marinas parking lot. Then I quietly stole to the back to view the pond. I only took a few pictures. It was quiet and deserted. I wish I had a yard large enough for a pond...Had I not been just a little leery, I would have taken more. .

I was so excited when I got home that I told my husband. I did not get the response I had anticipated. I got a fretful, agitated one. . . Are you crazy? Do you want to get yourself killed? I would never know where to look for you ...Our previous conversation had completely left his mind and new thoughts had taken over. Poor guy. He's married to a blogger.

Join our fun at Watery Wednesday and enjoy the rest of your week end! Take care and God bless!

Ruby Tuesday - Blanket Flowers

Monday, September 13, 2010

For an ever better close up of these wonderful blanket flowers and a brief history let your fingers take you to visit Squirrel Queen. I didn't see her post until I had already taken my pictures, and hers has a bonus - there is a visitor. :-)
Icy, BC has captured some really nice pictures of our blanket flowers too. Both Icy and Judy (Squirrel Queen) have the patience to capture and feature the many stages of a flower. Lucky me, I found them side by side so was able to capture all my photos (and all the stages) at once and I love all the stages of the blanket flower!

I first took photos over a month ago in  a vacant lot two blocks from me. I took lots of wild flowers that day, but when I returned the following day for a closer inspection found the lot mowed down and returned home disappointed and empty handed.

However last week I was rewarded with the cheerful blanket flower which had come back up and was blooming quite cheerfully for all to see, standing above the wild flowers and weeds! Join us and enjoy our Ruby Tuesday at
