Happy Mother’s Day

One thing my sister and I would get each year for our birthday was our choice of a cake any flavor we wanted with frosting any color that we asked for.

One year not having anything else to give Mom for her birthday, I asked her for her choices. I cannot remember the flavor, but I will always remember the color and each time I see it I smile and think of Mom. Her color choice was "sky-blue pink", and of course I tried to make frosting that color. It came out lavender, but Mom never complained. She praised my efforts.

Mom always praised my efforts. I tried to model my behavior after my mother's. It is not just the sky that reminds me of my mother's wisdom but several things throughout the day. Her words ring out in my ear. Words like "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."

I went to see her today and we hugged and told each other that we loved one another I realized once again how lucky I am. Mom cannot say much more than "I love you" but the words are just that much more precious because I know she had to relearn them. Her efforts are much appreciated. We need to appreciate not just the gifts but the efforts.

Take care and God bless you today and every day.

D L, yes, I was tickled pink. I looked up in the church parking lot to see children and grand children coming to attend church with me. Loved it!
