Wherever there's love, there's God

Once in awhile I get an email that is just too special to keep to myself. The sender asked me to share it, so I'm sharing. Try to stop me. :-)

She lost her best friend.

Do you see this picture of an adorable little girl and her best friend? Her fur buddy became ill and went to heaven, as her mom told her. Her mother told her that her pal would be with God so she would be well taken care of. Her mother tried to console her the best that she could, but we know sometimes when we lose someone very special to us we are inconsolable.

From the sounds of the story, they must have spent a lot of time playing together so they may have been more like siblings than pet/owner. A dog can surely wrap itself around one's heart. I know. I've lost a few. The mother states they had the dog for 14 years and that is enough time to create quite a few memories.

The little girl, Meredith, was concerned that God might not recognize Abbey when she got to heaven. Maybe He would not know what Abbey's favorite things were so she asked Mom if they could send a letter to heaven. I imagine Mom was feeling the ache of losing her long time friend too, but if she could help Meredith feel better, she was willing to give it a try. Meredith dictated, Mom wrote:

Dear God,
Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick.
I hope you will play with her. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her You will know that she is my dog. I really miss her.
Love, Meredith

Mom said that she had to put several stamps on this letter at Meredith's insistence because Meredith knew heaven had to be very far away and she wanted to make sure it got there.

Mom did not expect a response, but Meredith probably checked the mail daily. One day there was a package wrapped in gold paper. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called "When a Pet Dies.." inside the cover was taped her letter and the picture. Enclosed was a letter, which read:

Dear Meredith,
Abbey arrived safely in heaven.
Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away.
Abbey isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by..
Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you.
I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much.
By the way, I'm easy to find, I am wherever there is love.

Someone who works in our postal service did a beautiful thing that day. God bless and take care.
